1 Nephi 2

This chapter has always been easy for me to relate to because in this chapter Lehi is commanded by the Lord to take his family and leave Jerusalem. They are commanded to go into the wilderness . . . the wilderness. It is a place I feel like Nathan and I have been for years now. The comfort comes from this passage "Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commmandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise;yea, even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands.
Nate has been in school for . . . awhile. That is our wilderness. But, I have always known that we were making the journey to reach our promised land.

The verse "And my father dwelt in a tent" is also in this chapter. We always laughed at that verse growing up. But, cross references show it actually has deep meaning.
Did he sleep there? Was the tent his space? I don't know, probably. However, I think that perhaps he communed with God in his tent. In Genesis Abram builds an altar near his tent. It wouldn't surprise me if Lehi had an altar near his tent. Verse 7 even tells us that he built an altar and offered sacrifices. Perhaps that little verse is there to remind us we are not to forget God during our journey in the wilderness. .. and we can't forget to give thanks for our blessings. Lastly, it is necessary to offer up sacrifices as we journey in the wilderness. Sacrifice brings greater blessings.
